Equine Therapy for Groups

Build trust, communication, and emotional connection through guided, experiential equine therapy sessions – designed for groups, families, teams, and organisations.

Introducing Equine Therapy for Groups

Group equine therapy offers a powerful, hands-on way for people to connect, grow, and strengthen relationships. Our trained facilitators guide your group through meaningful activities with our therapy horses – helping participants develop insight, teamwork, and emotional resilience in a supportive, nature-based setting.

Horses naturally respond to human emotions and group energy, offering honest, intuitive feedback that helps groups improve their communication and problem-solving abilities. Through this unique interaction, participants build trust and cooperation, gain deeper understanding of group dynamics, strengthen their emotional awareness, develop healthier relationships, and experience meaningful stress relief and shared connection.

A comprehensive, neuroscience-based therapeutic model

At EquineTherapy Center, we offer neuroscience based, trauma-informed equine facilitated therapy designed to support deep emotional healing, nervous system regulation, and meaningful personal growth. Our methodology brings together horses, neuroscience, and experiential learning to help clients.

Horses naturally respond to human nervous systems, making them powerful partners in reshaping emotional patterns, rebuilding safety, and developing healthier ways of relating to ourselves and others. To support this process, we combine multiple evidence-based modalities into a cohesive, individual experience.

Trauma-informed care meets somatic therapy

We combine neuroscience-informed and trauma-responsive care with somatic & body-based therapy.

Trauma impacts the brain, body, and relational patterns. Our approach is grounded in:

  • Polyvagal theory & nervous system regulation
  • Brain-based healing tools
  • Trauma-informed principles (safety, empowerment, choice & collaboration)
  • Attachment-informed relational work

Every session is designed to meet you where you are – gently, respectfully, and without pressure.

Healing trauma requires more than talk. Our somatic approach helps clients:

  • Reconnect with bodily signals
  • Release stored tension
  • Develop grounding and regulation skills
  • Create new internal patterns of safety

Through gentle interactions, horses support clients in reorganizing the nervous system and shifting from survival mode into connection.

CBT, DBT and bilateral stimulation

We incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build practical life tools:

CBT Components

  • Identifying patterns and triggers
  • Restructuring limiting thoughts
  • Practicing new behavioral responses

DBT Components

  • Emotional regulation
  • Distress tolerance skills
  • Mindfulness in motion
  • Relationship-building and communication skills

Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) Integrated with Equine Therapy

Bilateral stimulation (a core component of EMDR and other trauma-processing approaches) helps reorganize neural pathways and supports integration of emotional material.

We incorporate gentle, rhythmic, naturally occurring bilateral stimulation through:

  • Walking beside a horse at a bilateral pace
  • Mindful left-right movements during grounding exercises
  • Sensory bilateral activities using tactile tools
  • Rhythm-based equine activities that support hemispheric integration
  • Visual bilateral tracking using the horse’s movement and environment

BLS helps clients:

  • Reduce emotional intensity
  • Promote nervous system balance
  • Support trauma processing
  • Increase clarity and cognitive flexibility
  • Build resilience and internal stability

This is always done safely, slowly, and within a trauma-informed window of tolerance.

Horses support this work by offering real-time, honest, non-judgmental feedback that reinforces healthier behaviors and emotional responses.

Creative Ecotherapeutic Methods

We also integrate:

  • Nature-based mindfulness
  • Grounding exercises
  • Creative expression
  • Sensory and experiential learning

Being outdoors amplifies healing—reducing stress, boosting clarity, and allowing clients to reconnect with themselves and the natural world.

  • Teens and adults struggling with emotional dysregulation
  • People processing grief, loss, or transitions
